iiSBE 2.0 Reboot

Except for a very small number of exceptions, we have not asked for nor collected membership fees for the 18-month pandemic and therefore we are re-starting with a more-or-less clean sheet as of 01 November. We are now distributing these documents to many previous and potential members.

News update: World SBE23 conference

Plans for the World SBE23 conference in Montreal are on track. The WSBE23 event is the next global event in the sustainable built environment (SBE) international conference series and is jointly sponsored by McGill University, University of Montréal and the Palais des Congrès de Montréal. The SBE series operates on a 3-year cycle, and is managed on behalf of SBE partners iiSBE, CIB, UNEP and FIDIC by Dr. Wim Bakens. The last World event was held (virtually) in Gothenburg in November 2020.

Professor Michael Jemtrud (McGill) has provided the following update on plans for the 2023 event.
...The organizing team is meeting bi-weekly to move things forward and things are progressing. We are in consultation with Sweden and other stakeholders to assist in the organization.

Development of a new iiSBE website

On 20 March a web meeting was held to discuss progress on development of the new iiSBE website. Participants included Luis Bragança, Antonín Lupíšek, Greg Foliente, and Nils Larsson, all key members of iiSBE, and Vitor Costa, who has been retained as consultant to implement the work.

Charles Kibert

We regret to inform you that Charles Kibert died earlier this week, in a one-car road accident near his university. Charles was professor and Director of the Center for Construction and Environment at University of Florida in Gainesville. He was an active member of iiSBE in the 1990’s and was committed to sustainability issues.

New version of SNTool

iiSBE has produced an updated version of SNTool and the relevant files can be downloaded here. As always, the system will undergo more changes in the future. The PPT provides an overview of the system. Changes include

* The Basic B worksheet of File B has been modified and enhanced in order to allow better descriptions of neighbourhood characteristics, land uses and occupancy types.
