News update: World SBE23 conference

Plans for the World SBE23 conference in Montreal are on track. The WSBE23 event is the next global event in the sustainable built environment (SBE) international conference series and is jointly sponsored by McGill University, University of Montréal and the Palais des Congrès de Montréal. The SBE series operates on a 3-year cycle, and is managed on behalf of SBE partners iiSBE, CIB, UNEP and FIDIC by Dr. Wim Bakens. The last World event was held (virtually) in Gothenburg in November 2020.

Professor Michael Jemtrud (McGill) has provided the following update on plans for the 2023 event.
...The organizing team is meeting bi-weekly to move things forward and things are progressing. We are in consultation with Sweden and other stakeholders to assist in the organization.

...Work is underway on development of themes and structure (sessions, panel discussions, action sessions, keynotes, SIG (special interest groups) breakfast and cocktail meetings, tours, pre-conference working and technical sessions).
...Structure and format in relation to sponsorship efforts are progressing.
...A technology and format scan of current conferences (in-person, virtual, hybrid) is being undertaken.
...A contract with the conference venue is being finalized and work is underway to estimate in-person attendance, logistics such as amount of food, space needed, outside events, accommodation, etc.
...Discussions are being held with the American Schools of Architecture to hold a follow-up educational summit after WSBE23.
...Scientific, organization, and advisory committees will be established and/or expanded during May.
...Academic hubs in several countries are being contacted relative to the “Transformational Plan” which was presented by Prof. Holger Wallbaum at Gothenburg WSBE 2020.
